This animal serves as a model system for ecotoxicology, immunology and intestinal physiology. The research group of Dr. Windfelder developed a micro-CT approach based on the oral administration of the clinical contrast agent iodixanol that enables high-resolution quantitative analysis of the intestinal tract. The results were given by Dr. Wind fields shown in a nice video:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8a328b3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-html\" data-id=\"8a328b3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"html.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/6iYKfAQKd58?rel=0&showinfo=0&loop=1&modestbranding=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38ec975 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"38ec975\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The scans were carried out in Department of <a class=\"unterstrichen\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-giessen.de\/de\/fbz\/bfs\/forschung\/Institutionen\/fb11\/experimentelle%20radiologie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">experimental radiology<\/a> with a SkyScan 1173 from <a class=\"unterstrichen\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rjl-microanalytic.de\/en\/instrumente\/bruker-skyscan-mikrotomographie-mikro-ct-nano-ct\/\">Bruker microCT.<\/a> In zoology, the table devices from the <a class=\"unterstrichen\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rjl-microanalytic.de\/en\/instrumente\/bruker-skyscan-mikrotomographie-mikro-ct-nano-ct\/\">Bruker SkyScan series<\/a> are extremely popular due to their compact design and high resolution.
