Filmic Pollution Decoded

The smallest contaminations, invisible to the naked eye, lead to errors in the processing of components. This was the experience of one of our customers during the coating of a turned part: An unknown filmic contamination discovered on the component after washing hindered the coating process.

Using Raman spectroscopy our laboratory team examined the contamination and determined the origin of the unknown substance by comparing all the process additives involved: it was residues of process oil mixed with detergent (see following figure). A modification of the cleaner provided the solution.
